I attended a workshop facilitated by Pascale Petit in which participants were given random animals to write about—I got the hare, and this poem was born. I wove facts about hares into a dream-like narrative set in Ireland. The use of hares and the narrow valley allowed me to explore themes recurrent in my work: violence against women and sexual desire. I also leant on the anthropomorphism of jack hares in popular culture.
