My poem, “Hu seo þrag gewat, genap under nihthelm, swa heo no wære,” is part of a collection in which I’m in conversation with Old English poems that have haunted me for forty years now. This poem includes the character of Crow, who often appears in my poetry as an alter-ego, a jaded character who complains about the unfairness of life, in this case, the ways in which time comes for us all.

Peter Grandbois is the author of fifteen books, the most recent of which is the novel/novella pairing, Cat People and Dream Memories of the Fifty Foot Woman. He is poetry editor at Boulevard and teaches at Denison University in Ohio.
